Exclusive: Tudors Star In Talks To Join ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’

Disney is working to produce a film that will continue the story of where 1983′s Episode VI: Return of the Jedi left off. Production on the seventh film in the series will start next year in the UK. Episode VII is expected to hit theaters in 2015.

Aside from the return (in an unknown capacity) of stars: Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher (WE first broke Harrison Ford coming back), not much else is known.

My right hand man El Mayimbe recently heard that a young man who has only been in one major franchise movie (in a co-starring role) was in talks to star in the new Star Wars film.

Now, my source has told me more information…

This is a name that has been thrown around a lot, especially since he has a relationship with J.J. Abrams. He appeared in Mission Impossible: III, directed by Abrams.

Sounds like he already has it.

He’s none other than…

The Tudors (2007-2010) star Jonathan Rhys Meyers.

As for what role he would be playing, we don’t know.

Episode VI: Return of the Jedi represented the end of the Star Wars series on film but the story for Episode VII will be original and written by Michael Arndt, whose writing credits include Toy Story 3 and the upcoming The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

So what do you think? Let us know below…And also EXPECT DENIALS FROM ABRAMS…Wasn’t he the one that said he wasn’t directing the next Star Wars movie? Didn’t he deny the existence of a specific character in Star Trek Into Darkness?

Jonathan Rhys Meyers In 'Star Wars'? Has 'Episode VII' Found Its First New Cast Member

That's the report from Latino Review, which revealed that Jonathan Rhys Meyers is up for an as-yet-undefined role in J.J. Abrams' new "Star Wars" sequel. If signed, it's possible that Meyers would join original trilogy stars Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher in the cast.

Meyers is best known for his role on the Showtime series "The Tudors." He previously worked with Abrams on "Mission: Impossible III," which was the director's debut feature. Meyers has also starred in "The Velvet Goldmine" (with former "Star Wars" star Ewan McGregor) and Woody Allen's "Match Point." Latino Review, it should be noted, has a good track record of breaking news about Abrams' projects. The site was one of the first to reveal the true identity of the "Star Trek Into Darkness" villain, a secret Abrams tried to keep up until the film's release last week.

"Star Wars: Episode VII" is under similar lock and key. For now, Ford, Hamill and Fisher have not confirmed their involvement, but the expectation is that each will appear in "Episode VII" in some capacity. Hamill himself said he had talks with Lucasfilm already about the project.

"I've only had one creative meeting about the new films, but I do remember saying: 'We've got to find a proper balance between CGI and old-school models,'" Hamill said at a "Star Wars" event in early May. "I want to have a more organic look so that we don't get into Roger Rabbit territory. [...] That's just me! Don't get too excited! I don't imagine their top priority is what I want."

Speculate on what role Meyers could play in the comments below. For more on the scoop, hit Latino Review.

Why Jonathan Rhys Meyers Could A Great Jagged Fel!

Latino Review, a generally reliable source of entertainment rumors, has recently claimed that JJ Abrams wants Meyers to star in Episode VII. If you look at his IMDB page, you will see that he currently has movies in Post-Production but doesn’t have anything serious slated for filming anytime soon, leaving him conventiently available over the next two years. I’d like to first of all present a few reasons why he could be great for the series, then I’ll explain why I think he would be a great Jagged Fel

Good For Star Wars

Though he has gained recognition for his leading role in Tudors, Meyers hasn’t starred in any major franchises or features, mostly playing supporting roles in films. This is great from a merchandising standpoint because his likeness isn’t already over used by King Henry action figures, so they have a chance to be unique. He also would help bring in alot of European support especially due to his British popularity and Irish Heritage.

Good For Jagged Fel

If the movies take place after the current EU, Jaina and Jag will be in their 30′s and Meyers would be around the right age. Jag has a complicated background, having earned much respect amongst the Empire, being exiled, and regaining standing. Jonathan’s flexibility with his accent can be used to add character to the role and a certain sense of distinguishment. Meyers has displayed his ability to be a trouble leader, in a similar way to how Fel acts, making tough decisions and hiding important information from his own wife. According to the Star Wars Legacy comic series, Fel becomes the new Emperor and starts a dynasty that lasts a hundred years, but we haven’t seen that happen in the novels yet. Could this new saga be the story of the Fel dynasty’s new begining?

‘Star Wars: Episode 7′ New Character Details Revealed?

4 days ago by Sandy Schaefer

Close to eight months have passed since Disney bought Lucasfilm from George Lucas – with the intention of producing new Star Wars movies – and since then, we’ve spent a lot of time on speculation concerning which characters from the previous live-action Star Wars installments will make an appearance in director J.J. Abrams’ Episode VII; not to mention, whether or not bringing back original cast members is a good idea at all.

A month ago the first major casting rumor for a new character – one who would be introduced in Episode VII - began making the rounds, thanks to claims that Abrams may reunite with actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers on the film. The latter worked with Abrams before on Mission: Impossible III, so that doesn’t at all seem like a far-fetched idea, with regard to Meyers playing, say, a Jedi in the film.

Prior to that, all we had to go on was a rumor that the Episode VII script – written by Oscar-winner Michael Arndt (Toy Story 3) – could end up featuring a teenage female protagonist; that would mirror how the original Star Wars movie revolves around teen-aged Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill). Today, we have an unconfirmed casting breakdown that reveals some more details about the main characters in the next Star Wars movie (and helps to add more fuel to the speculation fire).

Bleeding Cool has posted the following character breakdown for Episode VII, which is reported to have begun open casting today in the U.K. (where filming will take place). The site is emphasizing that the characters are “not necessarily to be billed in the order below,” and stressing that the site has “100% confirmed” that the following is accurate. (… But, as always, best to take all this with a healthy grain of salt for the time being.)

•Late-teen female, independent, good sense of humour, fit.
•Young twenty-something male, witty and smart, fit but not traditionally good looking.
•A late twentysomething male, fit, handsome and confident.
•Seventy-something male, with strong opinions and tough demeanour. Also doesn’ t need to be particularly fit.
•A second young female, also late teens, tough, smart and fit.
•Forty something male, fit, military type.
•Thirtysomething male, intellectual. Apparently doesn’t need to be fit.

The late-teen female roles line up with speculation that Episode VII could revolve around the teenage daughter of Han and Leia Solo, be she named Jaina – like in the Star Wars expanded universe – or something else altogether. That doesn’t count out the possibility that one of the young male characters mentioned here is Han and Leia’s son; though, the oldest Solo/Skywalker children probably won’t be twins (a la Jaina and Jacen Solo in the E.U.), assuming the above is correct.

Meanwhile, the seventy-something male could be a longtime friend of Han’s – who is expected to appear in Episode VII as, most likely, a seasoned general for the New Republic – and the forty-something “military type” could be a fellow who’s being prepped to serve as Han’s successor. Similarly, it seems to be feasible that Meyers is being considered to play the “fit, handsome and confident” male character that is described above (since the 36-year old actor could easily pass for being in his late 20s, by Hollywood standards).

Of course, there are many ways that Episode VII might go wrong, when it comes to introducing new characters and re-establishing familiar ones (see: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull); not to mention, all of the above speculation could be completely off-base, especially if these details turn out to be incorrect.

All the same, there’s plenty of juicy material to be analyzed and discussed here, so feel free to chime in with your own thoughts in the comments section.
