NUOVO PROGETTO PER JONATHAN

"Albert Nobbs": tris di attori per Glenn Close

Amanda Seyfried, Jonathan Rhys Meyers e Orlando Bloom: un cast promettente per 'Albert Nobbs', versione cinematografica della piece teatrale che ha come protagonista Glenn Close. L'attrice reciterà nello stesso ruolo e per la prima volta indosserà anche i panni di produttrice.
Nel film la Close interpreta una donna costretta a fingersi uomo per trovare lavoro e sopravvivere nell'Irlanda del 1800. I panni maschili la 'intrappoleranno' per 20 anni, senza riuscire a rivelare la verità. 'Albert Nobbs' sarà diretto da Rodrigo Garcia: la sceneggiatura, tratta dal breve racconto dell'autore irlandese George Moore, è stata rivisitata da Glenn in prima persona.
L'attrice ha vinto un Obie Award nel 1983 grazie allo stesso ruolo nella rappresentazione teatrale 'The Singular Life of Albert Nobbs'. Le riprese del film avranno inizio a giugno: Seyfried, Rhys Meyers e Bloom si uniscono agli attori già confermati nel progetto, alias Michael Gambon e Janet McTeer.
A quanto pare questo è l'anno della Seyfried. L'esplosiva bionda, impostasi al pubblico nel musical 'Mamma mia!' al fianco di Meryl Streep, ha preso parte ad una serie di progetti interessanti, mettendo a segno più di un bel colpo: parliamo del conturbante 'Chloe', del drammatico 'Dear John' (campione di incassi in America) e del romantico 'Letters to Juliet', in Italia quest'estate.

Allora è confermato : Jonathan farà parte del film ALBERT NOBBS
Le riprese inizieranno la settimana prossima, con una breve interruzione per Natale e dureranno fino ai primi di febbraio. Sarà girato a Dublino e dintorni, ma in luoghi segreti.



Glenn Close sarà un uomo in Albert Nobbs

Sulla carta, il prossimo film con protagonista Glenn Close, si appresta ad essere il più chiacchierato della prossima stagione. Il motivo? L’attrice interpreterà un ruolo molto particolare: sarà una donna costretta a travestirsi da uomo per sopravvivere ad una vita di stenti.
Per la Close si tratta di un ruolo che conosceva molto bene e che, soprattutto, gli ha permesso di vincere un Obie Award come miglior attrice nel 1982. Miss Attrazione Fatale ha interpretato lo stesso ruolo a teatro, conquistando consensi e pareri favorevoli da parte di pubblico e critica.
Ma veniamo ad oggi: il film rispetto alla versione teatrale (a sua volta tratta dalle pagine dello scrittore George Moore) si intitolerà semplicemente Albert Nobbs, al posto di The Singular Life of Albert Nobbs. Insieme a Glenn Close ci saranno delle giovani leve del cinema hollywoodiano:
Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Mia Wasikowska, Aaron Johnson. La regia sarà curata da Rodrigo Garcia, la Close oltre a recitare sarà impegnata anche nella produzione e nella sceneggiatura (sarà co-sceneggiatrice).
Albert Nobbs racconta di una donna costretta a travestirsi da uomo, nella speranza che con questo espediente riesca a trovare un lavoro. L’idea funzionerà, la assumeranno come maggiordomo all’interno di un importante hotel di Dublino, ma dovrà mentire sulla sua sessualità per non essere licenziata.

Naturalmente Jonathan non c'era perchè ancora impegnato sul set di Bella del Signore (le ultime riprese sono previste il 22 dicembre)

Glenn Close conferma che Jonathan farà parte del film ma si rifiuta di spiegare il suo ruolo, dicendo che dovrà essere una sorpresa. Il regista aggiunge che il suo ruolo sarà "divertente" .

Glenn ha raccontato di avere lavorato con Jonathan in precedenza ne "Il leone in inverno" e di avere pensato subito a lui per questo ruolo "misterioso". Lo ha chiamato chiedendo timidamente "prenderesti in considerazione questo ruolo, si tratta solo di 3 giorni di riprese" e lui senza esitare ha detto "si, se è per te non ti preoccupare, ci sarò". E così è stato.

Nel cast c'è anche Maria Doyle Kennedy, che nei Tudors interpretava Caterina D'Aaragona, la prima moglie di Enrico, e che è rimasta molto amica di Jonathan.

Il film conta su un budget molto limitato, ma pieno com'è di talenti, dietro e davanti le telecamere, è già stato venduto in molti paesi e quasi sicuramente sarà presentato al Festival di Venezia o di Toronto.

Noi ovviamente speriamo per quello di Venezia , no?

She has won many an award for best actress. Now it seems Glenn Close might be hoping for a best actor honour.
The 63-year-old Hollywood star, who starred alongside Michael Douglas in steamy thriller Fatal Attraction, has been transformed for her latest film.

Albert Nobbs stars Miss Close in the title role of an English woman who disguises herself as a male butler to find work in 19th century Ireland.

Pictured on set in Dublin, Miss Close wore what appeared to be a wig styled into a mannish cut with a side parting. A sombre black suit, stiff collar and watch chain completed the masculine look.
The movie is based on a short story by Irish novelist George Moore.
Miss Close, who is also producing the film, said she had been so moved by the tale that she has spent the past 15 years trying to bring it to the screen.
She admitted that playing Albert Nobbs would be the challenge of her career.
But she added: ‘I believe in this story and its potential to take everyone on a sensuous, funny, heart-breaking, wildly unexpected ride.’

American Miss Close is best known for her role as a deranged stalker in 1987 film Fatal Attraction. During her career, the thrice-married star has won an Emmy award, three Tony awards and two Golden Globes, and has been nominated for five Oscars.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers, best known for his role as Henry VIII in the TV drama series The Tudors, and Aaron Johnson, who played John Lennon in Nowhere Boy, also star in the film, due to be released next year.

Other cast members include Sir Michael Gambon, Pauline Collins and former Casualty actress Brenda Fricker.
Nowhere Boy star Aaron Johnson and Alice in Wonderland actress Mia Wasikowska have stepped in at the last minute to replace Orlando Bloom and Amanda Seyfried, who both pulled out of the project.

Close recently spoke about her excitement at being able to film on location in Dublin.
'At one point we were thinking of filming in Hungary, eastern Germany, Montreal in Canada,' she said at a press conference in Dublin last week.
'We've been all over the place but I'm really happy that we're here because this is where it should be.'
She added: 'It is a real trick to bring off a movie, a period movie, on the budget that we have, but so far so good.'
A 1982 review in the New York Times praised Glenn's performance in the stage play, calling her transformation as Nobbs more than just aesthetic, but affecting her 'manner, movement and sensibility.'
After 'actively' trying to get the film made for ten years, Close has seen her dream realised after collaborating on the screenplay with novelist John Banville.
'The definition of a truly independent film is that they almost don’t get made,' she said at the press conference.

'Ten years ago I was here hoping to make the film. I feel it is a really wonderful partnership and I’m very excited.
'Never in my wildest dreams did I think we would have this extraordinary group of talent both in front of and behind the camera.'
The film's director Rodrigo Garcia said: 'It is the kind of script that is moving and funny with a story that is compelling.
'It is something about people’s interior lives and their longing. It is rare for a script to bring together so many interesting themes.'

Infatti il bimbo a fianco di Jonathan si chiama RHYS BURKE , ha 5 anni e recita con lui in Albert Nobbs
Qui c'è l'articolo che racconta di come ha ottenuto il ruolo.
Infatti inizialmente solo la sua sorellina doveva essere nel film. Ma dopo averlo visto a pranzo il regista ha inventato su due piedi un ruolo anche per lui.

Deve essere proprio un peperino, che ne dite?

È triste si...! Booooh, non so che pensare...!

Abert Nobbs ha già trovato un distributore per gli Stati Uniti. L'uscita nelle sale è prevista per l'inverno, si pensa per farlo rientrare nella stagione giusta per partecipare ai festival e gli Awards.

Liddell Entertainment and Roadside Attractions have acquired US rights to Albert Nobbs, which stars Glenn Close as a woman passing as a man in order to work and survive in 19th century Dublin. Rodrigo Garcia directed the drama, which also stars Mia Wasikowska, Aaron Johnson, Janet McTeer, Pauline Collins, Brenda Fricker, Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Brendan Gleeson. Close has a vested interest in this one: she played the character off-Broadway in the early 1980s, the script with Gabriella Prekop and John Banville marks her first screenplay credit (the story is by Istvan Szabo, adapted from the George Moore novella), and she's a producer alongside Bonnie Curtis, Julie Lynn and Alan Moloney. The deal was announced by Mickey Liddell of Liddell Entertainment and Roadside co-presidents Howard Cohen and Eric d’Arbeloff; the companies, who partnered on the distribution of Biutiful last year, plan a fall release for Nobbs, which puts it in awards season. Questo festival è molto particolare:
infatti i film presenti vengono tenuti segreti fino all'ultimo e i critici stessi vengono a conoscenza dei titoli solo mentre sono già in viaggio per il raggiungere il festival.


Inoltre i film presentati sono solitamente i contendenti all'Oscar, quindi a maggior ragione essere stato scelto per chiudere il festival è un gran bel segno!!!
Speriamo in bene.

Ma io voglio VEDERLOOOOO!!

Le pime recensioni di Albert Nobbs sono state un pò miste, in generale tutti lodano l'interpretazione di Glen Close, ma molti criticano alcune scelte del regista.


Comunque, il ruolo di Jonathan è quello di un Visconte conosciuto come un donnaiolo, che in realtà è bisex.
Come sapevamo, è' un ruolo molto piccolo, tanto che le recensioni sottolineano con dispiacere questa sua apparizione troppo breve.

The screenplay hints there could be more though such as the secrets so many of the characters hide from each other including the Doctor's affair with another maid, the rich "womanizing" lord (a completely wasted Jonathan Rhys Meyers) who plays more in bed with his best mate than with the ladies or the despised hotel owner (Pauline Collins) who is barely keeping the business a float. This theme could have worked under another director, but these tangents almost fly pointlessly by Garcia's eye.

Directing his first period piece, Garcia does a fine job of evoking the era, while only partially managing to convey the circumstances that make Nobbs such a magnet for misery. "Albert Nobbs" is relatively unique among cross-dressing stories in that it takes the form of tragedy rather than full-blown farce. A wee bit of humor would have gone a long way in this dour affair, and the few glimpses we get of Victorian vice (an alcoholic butler sneaking sips from guests' half-finished glasses, the sight of Jonathan Rhys Meyers as a wealthy viscount with same-sex persuasions) are scarcely enough to salvage the slow-motion inevitability of looming misfortune.
